• I made a seemingly interesting discovery. I had my motor pulled for a fresh up after 25 years of driving and learned the engine stamped assembly date is 5/12/65 The vin# is stamped on the block also. My car data plate has a build date 5/11/65. The block cast number is C5AE-6015E w/ a date of 5E7 I suppose this anomaly between the engine assembly number and the data plate was common in 1965?

    Thanks, Steve

  • Remember that the date on the door plate is just a scheduled date - the date a person in the office of the car plant estimated that they might be able to start building the car. That date (based on Ford production dates from other year that have records of) show that those dates could be off by three weeks earlier or later in causes.

You didn't mention the plant that the car was assembled at so when guessing at the possible real build date you have to consider in the example of the distance from the engine plant to the car plant as it is very different from one to another

  • For information. My scheduled build date was 29 Sept., 1964 and the engine assembly date is stamped as 7 Oct., 1964. This is a Dearborn K fastback.
