• Hi

    A Kar 5F09k,

    DSO: Atlanta.

    Date: 12A: 01/12/1965.

    Axle:5

    Trans:5

    Engine: C5AE-6015E/ 5A5: 01/05/65

Code on the front of the bloc, passager side: 5A8T

Rear Axle: C5AW-4668 / 4H8: 08/08/1964. VIN stamped not find.

VIN stamped on the bloc: ok

VIN stamped on the HEH-T gear box: ok

Do you think casting numbers are correct?

Because there is just One week between the bloc assembled and the Kar out of factory.

    Thanks.

  • The 1/5/65 casting date of the block was just a bare very hot chunk of metal that had to cool and then get machined. Then it has to be assembled.

If your build date stamp on the left front of the block is correct, there is only 4 days between the engine build date and the scheduled build date for the Kar. In that time the engine had to be shipped from Cleveland to the Dearborn assembly plant. Seems pretty tight to me. Possibly that Kar was built later than the scheduled build date.

There is NOT supposed to be a VIN stamp on the rear axle housing. That is why you cannot find one.

  • I had the case of an engine whose assembly date was 9 days before the build date of the Kar (a San Jose Kar)
Although the VIN stamp on the block seemed original, we could not be certain that it was the original engine but it seemed to be the case because the dates of the harmonic balancer, the carburetor, the distributor, the fuel pump and even of the radiator corresponded to this same period.

  • Remember that your comparing the engine dates to a date on the door that was projected or guessed when the order was received at the San Jose plant. That date could be off by as much as 3 weeks in either direction though most within a week.

Just something to thing about since so many think that the door tag date is the date the car was always built on. In the case of San Jose built cars you have to consider freight time as well as loading and unloading time and schedules. Not like they have a train waiting for just one motor to be shipped cross country.
