Here we have a grouping of used Ford 289 High-performance motor pieces which we purchased in one of our recent buyouts. This is a untouched K code standard bore block, Hipo C3AE rods 3/8 bolts with standard pistons, heads, crank, balancer, slinger, intake and chrome valve covers all from a private collectors parts stash. The 271 horsepower 289 Hipo motor was the best Ford had to offer for their earlier model GT Shelby Mustangs and Fairlane's.
The Shelby GT 350 and all K model Mustangs as well as Hipo Fairlane's all used these 271 HP motors. Amazingly Ford engineers changed almost every piece of this motor to make it stronger with better performance design to add horsepower to their 289 Hipo's
A rare find we are offering you this stock grouping of un-restored High performance 289 parts for a motor kit. We have lightly cleaned & inspected the pieces to assure the each part is correct and not modified or damaged. Although used it's ready for your use to restore and rebuild to the original spec's & finish. All the Hipo characteristics are present as seen in the photos. We will begin with the dates and then with the design changes. The 6 bolt block has the special solid design main caps and is dated 4K3 (September 3 1964). Factory cast C5AE 6015 E which is correct for a 1965 build as is consistent with the stamped vehicle identification number 5F03K1631634? we located on the center of the block directly above the oil pan.
We have cleaned and inspected motor block it has no sleeves, grooves, cracks or repairs. Our photo shows a caliper at just under the 4.00 in the cylinder block and that is a standard bore cylinder. Next we have 8 like new correct C3AE rods with heavier 3/8 rod bolts again part of Ford performance upgrade. Each one has the undamaged stock standard bore piston which is consistent with the block we are offering. All pieces have been stored in a climate controlled storage & are left undisturbed for the purpose of this auction. In addition we have a set of used chrome HiPo style valve covers although they are slightly rusted as is shown in pics.
Next both heads are dated 5 K 14 September 14th 1965 and stamped 19 and 21 consistent with Fords building patterns. You can clearly see the recessed valve saddles and of course factory screw in studs. These 289 castings have a 19 on one head and a 21 on the top corner of the other and a pronounced 4V on both the top and bottom sides. Both of the head footprints are thick (recessed area on bottom of the head to indicate planning or modifications) validating them uncut. The valves and springs are used and should be or could very well need to be replaced with seats when rebuilding occurs. There are no signs of cracks, welds repairs on these are originals which are like the rest of this used collection of pieces unrestored.
For the top we have the 4L 17 1964 dated cast iron 289 C5AE 9425 M intake correct for 1965 model year car. As to the bottom the crank has the special smooth polish mark part of Fords testing to assure the steel strength. Also offered is the oil slinger another 289 hipo piece & the C5OE-A extra thick harmonic balancer.

Good catch Fred . the dished pistons are a dead giveaway, FYI he has a history of this sort of thing , I am amused with his vending at Ford Carlisle .

An August 1965 casting would be correct for a 1966 model. The assembly date on this particular one is September 1965. The intake manifold is January 1967. Being as there is no VIN stamp, this could have been a replacement engine for a 1965 model.

An August 1965 casting would be correct for a 1966 model. The assembly date on this particular one is September 1965. The intake manifold is January 1967. Being as there is no VIN stamp, this could have been a replacement engine for a 1965 model.

Thank you! Given the close casting dates of block and heads, standard bore, hipo caps, I was intrigued by this motor, as it “appears” to be original/untouched (as far as internals). I’m picky, so we’ll see if I go for it (relatively local for me to inspect). The fact that you mention it could have been a replacement engine for a 1965 model may be further reinforced by the lack of any evidence of blue paint on the block (black paint only). Unlikely someone stripped all blue paint off throughly while assembled.

#1 cap has what looks like a small mark or nub, just right of it’s center.

Here we have a grouping of used Ford 289 High-performance motor pieces which we purchased in one of our recent buyouts. This is a untouched K code standard bore block, Hipo C3AE rods 3/8 bolts with standard pistons, heads, crank, balancer, slinger, intake and chrome valve covers all from a private collectors parts stash. The 271 horsepower 289 Hipo motor was the best Ford had to offer for their earlier model GT Shelby Mustangs and Fairlane's.
The Shelby GT 350 and all K model Mustangs as well as Hipo Fairlane's all used these 271 HP motors. Amazingly Ford engineers changed almost every piece of this motor to make it stronger with better performance design to add horsepower to their 289 Hipo's
A rare find we are offering you this stock grouping of un-restored High performance 289 parts for a motor kit. We have lightly cleaned & inspected the pieces to assure the each part is correct and not modified or damaged. Although used it's ready for your use to restore and rebuild to the original spec's & finish. All the Hipo characteristics are present as seen in the photos. We will begin with the dates and then with the design changes. The 6 bolt block has the special solid design main caps and is dated 4K3 (September 3 1964). Factory cast C5AE 6015 E which is correct for a 1965 build as is consistent with the stamped vehicle identification number 5F03K1631634? we located on the center of the block directly above the oil pan.
We have cleaned and inspected motor block it has no sleeves, grooves, cracks or repairs. Our photo shows a caliper at just under the 4.00 in the cylinder block and that is a standard bore cylinder. Next we have 8 like new correct C3AE rods with heavier 3/8 rod bolts again part of Ford performance upgrade. Each one has the undamaged stock standard bore piston which is consistent with the block we are offering. All pieces have been stored in a climate controlled storage & are left undisturbed for the purpose of this auction. In addition we have a set of used chrome HiPo style valve covers although they are slightly rusted as is shown in pics.
Next both heads are dated 5 K 14 September 14th 1965 and stamped 19 and 21 consistent with Fords building patterns. You can clearly see the recessed valve saddles and of course factory screw in studs. These 289 castings have a 19 on one head and a 21 on the top corner of the other and a pronounced 4V on both the top and bottom sides. Both of the head footprints are thick (recessed area on bottom of the head to indicate planning or modifications) validating them uncut. The valves and springs are used and should be or could very well need to be replaced with seats when rebuilding occurs. There are no signs of cracks, welds repairs on these are originals which are like the rest of this used collection of pieces unrestored.
For the top we have the 4L 17 1964 dated cast iron 289 C5AE 9425 M intake correct for 1965 model year car. As to the bottom the crank has the special smooth polish mark part of Fords testing to assure the steel strength. Also offered is the oil slinger another 289 hipo piece & the C5OE-A extra thick harmonic balancer.
Note: we have some additional Hipo offerings in upcoming auctions such as a restored 289 Hipo carburetor, Ford remanufactured distributor, original exhaust manifolds and a bunch more desirable pieces.
