    This is the first time that I have seen one of these as an NOS piece in a very long time. It does appear to have been run though based on the wear marks on the journals. I do not see the polished area on the rear counterweight or the test marks but maybe the picture is just not clear enough.

  • I have another method i use which was shown to me by an old school machinist that i think is neat ,that is to put a verified k code crankshaft and a standard 289 non k code crank on end next to each other and lightly tap the same counterweight on each one with a screwdriver ,the true K code crank should have a higher ring tone sound similar to tapping a piece of china glass vs a low dull sound on the non K crank ,the higher ring sound is from the higher nodular iron nickel content in it .

    Chuck, That sounds reasonable as that is also a method to check for cracked crankshafts that I have used for many years. The cracked ones will sound like just a thud.

  • That is a very expensive price. It is my understanding the crankshaft was the same 1M cast-iron crankshaft as the standard 289s but were "handpicked and brinnel-tested for strength" and made in batches with higher levels of nickel and magnesium. Am I missing anything? So why the expensive price tag?

    You are correct on your thoughts as far as i know. This seller always overprices their stuff, especially if they believe that they have an NOS Hipo 289 part. I have already expressed my doubts about the NOS statement along with my feelings about why I came up with my feelings.
