    Mixed set of eight Hipo 289 connecting rods. All eight have original 3/8" diameter bolts. Seven are rectangular head and one is football shaped head.

    Here is an Ebay auction for a set 8 used Hipo connecting rods and pistons by Ebay member "Vintage Engine Works" with a Buy-It-Now of $900.00:

    3/8 Bolt 289 Ford HiPo connecting rods. These rods appear to be recon with new bolts. They have also had the beams polished and been balanced. Whoever did so performed an excellent job, it is not butcher work. Attached to the rods are a new set of .030 oversize Forgedtrue dome pistons. They are a small done and should yield about an 11.00:1 compression ratio. Dusty and light surface rust but in excellent condition.

    Ford 289 hi po K code connecting rods for GT350 Shelby Mustang with L2249 STD.TRW forged pistons .Here is a matched set of 8 289 HiPo connecting rods with Forged TRW pistons and wrist pins for a 289 -302 Ford. These pistons are for a .030 over bore of 4.030 and have a TRW part number of L2249 on them.

    The 289 HiPo rods have ARP bolts in them and are a matched set with no issues The TRW pistons are a matched set that were removed from a 66 GT350 engine. This is a good used set that does not look to have much mileage on them .The skirts look pretty good with very little wear. These were rated at 12:1 compression with a stock 54cc combustion chamber when they were sold new. Here are some other specs 1.600 Compression height, .440 tall dome, 8.5 cc volume including valve pockets. This would obviously drop when using an aftermarket head with a larger combustion chamber. Pistons are very expensive today and these would be a good price compared to having a custom set made. Will fit all 4.030 bore engines with an 8.200 deck height including 289 and 302 powered cars like Fairlane and Mustang and Shelby GT350 .Winner pays actual UPS shipping charges. Good luck bidding!

    Original Ford 289 HiPo connecting rods removed from an early Shelby GT350 engine. These are used original parts and are being sold as-is.

    Please review all photos carefully to determine condition. One of the eight rods is bent and/or twisted, so this set should be considered a rebuild, parts, or core set. I have not had the remaining rods professionally inspected or measured.

    As an additional note beyond the sellers note is that these rods are no longer for the normal press fit pins. They have been floated without adding bushings. I have seen a lot of these rods with the same modification. The tell on this modification is the hole drilled into the small end of the rod to help keep the piston pin lubricated.

    Normally when floating a rod a bushing should to be installed for longevity thats what my understanding is from talking to different machinist over the years.

    You are correct about the bushings and the bushings are more obvious. However I have seen a lot of these "economy" floats without bushings done on Hipo rods. I try to avoid these as I use press fit on my Hipo 289 engines. I have bought some of these in error and I will never use them myself.

    The seller is advertising these as Hipo connecting rods with 3/8" bolts but they are just standard 289 rods with aftermarket 5/16" Milodon rod bolts. Looks like they sold recently too. The buyer is not going to be happy

    The seller does show a 9/16" combination wrench fitting the rod nut. That is usually a good prove out for a 3/8" bolt. Does Milodon use a 5/16" nut that uses a 9/16" wrench on their rod bolts?

    The seller of the $850 set of rods shows the 9/16" wrench which I agree is a good prove out for a 3/8" bolt. The seller of the $2,500 set of rods with the Milodon bolts does not show a 9/16" wrench. I have since confirmed with this seller that those were in fact 5/16" Milodon bolts and the rods were mistaken for genuine Hipo rods. The buyer of these rods has since shipped them back to him and he issued a full refund.
