The Mustang is one of the greatest successes stories in the automobile history. It was the brainchild of Lee Iococca, along with a committee of eight others. The car completely exceeded Ford's expectations with sales totaling over 680,000 units from 1964 to 1965.

The Mustang was introduced in March of 1964 and those built up to August of that year were referred to as 64 1/2's although that was not a factory designation. Adding to the naming confusion, Mustangs built before August 17th 1964, were equipped with generators with a Gen warning light, are often referred to as early "65s". Those built after August 17th alternator equipped with a ALT light are called late "65s". Engine in the late "65s" are more powerful; the 200 six cylinder picked up 19hp and the 2 barrel and 4 barrel versions of the 289 V-8's were boosted to 200 and 225 horsepower.

The tire Burner's delight was the High-Performance K-code 289ci 271hp engine, a $276 option. Introduced in June of 1964 the performance was so impressive that CAROL SHELBY chose it to be the power plant for the Shelby 350 in 1965. It was only available with a four-speed transmission and disc brakes.

This is a extremely rare opportunity to own a low Mileage Mustang K-Code Fast Back. This vehicle was purchased from David Holz a Ford enthusiast who had a large collection of various Mustang K-codes, Bosses, Mach's , Shelby's plus parts etc... and thsi one was his absolute favorite vehicles. He purchased the car from a good friend who bought it sight unseen knowing Mr.Holz would be interested. He didnt have the car long before Mr. Holz made him an offer he couldnt refuse.

The vehicle was bought new as a graduation present for the original owners son. The son went off to war in Vietnam and unfortunately did not return. The car sat in her garage for a number of years, she reportedly didnt drive the car much after her son passed away and it was rarely used but well kept. Several years had gone, and now it was time for the car to go. She wanted to sell the car and being a widow herself with her only son no longer around she didnt have the resources to market the car. She sent the vehicle to a local service center in town to prepare the car for sale. This is where the owner of Rivers Edge service center John SanBorn, bought the car. The car had very low miles at that point and he enjoyed the vehicle for 12 years before finally selling it with 8,401 miles (stated by title transfer). The car passed hands a few more times in the 80's before the Mustang collector was offered the car.

We have Documents to support miles with a title from John Sanborn to the next buyer showing it's mileage at the time of transfer 8401, it also shows the next transfer at 8434 miles. When David Holz received the car he had it titled to him and the title states actual miles at 8488 in 2003. Also included is a oil change receipt from John Sanborns shop at 5700 miles. The vehicle will come with it's original broadcast sheets, and copies of all documentation we have of its history. We also have a few photos of the car prior to its restoration.

Due to sitting the car had to be freshened up. The vehicle was repainted in the original color, Rangoon Red with its original fenders, and doors. Unfortunately the original hood was removed long ago but a Shelby Similar hood with scoop was installed and gives an aggressive look. The paint and body are in excellent condition and the vehicle shows beautifully. All chrome and stainless trim are in like new condition. The underside of the vehicle is red oxide.

The interior was in good condition with the exception of the carpet so it was replaced correctly and finishes the interior off like it was in 1965. The seats are 90% original and in excellent condition. The vehicle is equipped with bucket seats, fold down rear seat, remote mirror, courtesy lights and a Shelby steering wheel with Vintage 1979 Bobs Safety seat belts.

The power plant is the popular 289 V8 k-code engine with 271hp. The power plant was rebuilt and runs like new. Coupled to a 4 speed manual transmission and 3.50 rear end. The vehicle is equipped with 4 wheel disc brakes and sits on a set of original steel wheels. A few components were changed however we have the original valve covers, solenoid, and tail light bracket that are included with the car.

    INVESTMENT

Today the Shelby Mustangs 350's, 500's,KR'S are doubling nearly as fast as one can acquire the vehicle. Many models are approaching the $500,000 to 1 Million range. When considering the Shelby one must take in the fact that Shelby was backed by Ford. This same 289ci 271hp K-Code engine is what propelled the Shelby 350's around the track on race day, and is what Ford installed factory original in the K-code Mustangs. The K-code cars are Ford Factory built and the baseline of Shelby. It will not be long before K-code's and Shelby's are grouped together price wise. <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

  • Kall me sKeptiKal....Nam vet does not return home...If I have heard that story once, I have heard it a thousand times. The first time <or two or three...> I actually went to see a car that was not as advertised <go figure!>

A lot of things do not add up on this car, looking at the thread.
