3 x 2V Carb. Induction Kit Accelerator Rod

  • Does anyone have a picture of an original accelerator rod for the 3 X 2 Carb. set up for a '65 Mustang with a manual transmission?

There was a "Accelerator Kit" for this induction kit. Ford part number was C5ZZ-9B843-A. The kit consisted of 1 C4RA-9A701-B Accelerator Rod (bellcrank to accel. shaft) and 1 B7A-9826-A Clip.

I'm guessing it will be tough to find an original, so I would just like to see an original to copy/fabricate.

  • Brant, I think that Bob Mannel did an article a couple of years ago for the Fairlane Club magazine and there was a picture (full size and color) in the article. One of my buddies made me a copy. I willsee if I can find it and get it to you in the next couple of days.

    Joe,

Thanks for your reply. Maybe Bob will chime in here too.

  • My article was on the Fairlane linkage and not the Mustang, which was different. It is similar to a standard Mustang rod, but I have never come across a known original to document. I have an illustration of what it looks like and I did capture a picture of one about 10 years ago in a Mustang.

  • Bob,

First, thanks so much for posting the diagram and the photo.

From the documention though, it appears that there was a different accel. rod listed for the auto. trans. vs. the manual trans. Your diagram appears to be an auto. trans. The manual trans. diagram is different from your picture also:

That brings up another question, in all of my documentation, a manual choke (like your picture) was never used.

Any more comments/info. are more than welcome.

    Thanks again!

  • The rod is C4RA-9A701-B in both cases. The C5ZZ-9B843-A kit was for M/T and C5ZZ-9B843-B was for A/T. The only difference in kits was the latter added the A/T bellcrank, which had to be altered in its mounting for the (3)x2V intake. But, the rod is the same for both. The illustration you have is essentially the same with the bellcrank deleted.

The picture I took was not of a proper installation.
