i apologize for posting this

but my son's engine s/n is ELA49743

is this correct for his '66 mustang?

where would be the best place to look this up?

Dave, That number is most likely an engine rebuilders work order number. As an example, the Ford Authorized Remanufacturer in the Los Angeles area used tags that they riveted onto the block near the bellhousing area. I have also seen where rebuilders stamp their work order numbers onto blocks and heads many times before. Where is this number located? Do you have a picture?
