Looking for some help on decoding my doortag. Here is what I have
VIN 5F09K371622
Body 63A
Color H
Trim D2
Date 15M
DSO 81
Axle 5
Trans E
Most of the VIN decodes don't recognize the Trans (E) designation for some reason.

Do you have the axle and trans ID's reversed? If you have a 4 speed trans would be 5 and "E" would be a 3.50 locking dif. I've never seen a E for trans. DSO 81 is Canada, maybe they had some thing?

It may be a typo error. Does your car have a limited slip differential? That's code "E" for a 3.50:1 axle. See if there is an ID tag an the axle.

Thanks for the reply guys. The original door tag is on the car and the Trans code is an E. This is a 4 speed car and I checked the rear diff and there is no tag. The DSO comes up as Canada Special Order.
this link has a code '6' for close ratio 4 speed, which a HIPO has but I thought they were all taggged as '5' and '6' was not used till like 69 or something. that '6' could look like an 'E'? later down in the chart a '6' is a C4. 66 could have had an auto trans. other than this or a mis-stamp, I don't know.

Hmmm this is interesting. Thanks for that link. I'm guessing it was stamped E to designate it as a Locking 3:50 Ratio. May have been specific to Canada DSO cars???
Trying to figure out this image posting. Attached is an image of the door tag.
It's an 'E' for sure. If you have a locker rear, I'm going with mis-stamped and the codes are reversed, or just confusion by the stamper that day.
Sounds good to me. Funny the last mustang I owned had a blank paint code on the door tag. It was C code San Jose built convertible.
I will try and make contact with the former owner to see if he ever came up with any explanations.
I saw a blank paint code 65 car a few years ago at a MCA show here in Ohio. It was painted a non-Mustang assembly plant Ford color, still had original darker grey paint (not mine. my car has the 'O' stamp, color was changed in the 70's). The owner said that back then, you could order a non-Mustang color and they would leave the paint code blank.

Thats interesting Bill. I had never heard of that before. I bought the car restored and it was painted Antique Bronze (Paint code P) which is a pretty rare color for 66. Now I'm curious what that orginal color may have been. I sold the car 4 years ago and have never seen it at show. <img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
