I still have old bias plys on my 1966 with 14inch magnum 500's. What are your reccomendations on sizes for replacement radials? 205/60/14? Any problems going to 215/60/14? Thanks.
Tire size used on 14inch magnums?

Chris,
205/70 x 14's will give you an overall diameter close to the original. I think that this size looks nice on a 65-66 car. The BFG Radial TA with the raised white letters is a great looking tire with the Magnum 500's.
To get a similar diameter in a 60 series tire, you would have to go with a 235/60 x 14.
The sizes that you mentioned would have a small overall diameter (tire would be too "short" looking in my opinion.)

205/70-14's wouldn't fit on my car. 195/70-14's do fit. The best 14" tire I know of is the BF Goodrich Traction T/A

oringinal tires modern sizing equivilant would be 185/75-14. Uning that as a reference, here's how the various sizes compare in diameter, etc. If you are wanting to be close to the original diameter, then you would want to get as close to 24.9" as possible.
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revolutions Speedometer Odometer Difference
185/75-14 5.5" 12.5" 24.9" 78.3" 809/mi 60MPH 10000mi N/A
195/70-14 5.4" 12.4" 24.7" 77.7" 815/mi 60MPH 10072mi -0.7%
205/70-14 5.6" 12.6" 25.3" 79.5" 797/mi 59MPH 9852mi + 1.5%
215/60-14 5.1" 12.1" 24.2" 75.9" 835/mi 62MPH 10318mi -3.1%
225/60-14 5.3" 12.3" 24.6" 77.4" 819/mi 61MPH 10120mi -1.2%

Z-Ray, why wouldn't the 205/70/14s fit? Did they rub someplace? I put that same size on a 66 Mustang with no problems. Would the Shelby be different? I just ordered 205/70/14 BFG T/A radials for my 66Hertz car,now you have wondering. Doug

I have used and sold tons of 205/70 x 14 tires for 65-66 Mustangs (and GT350's) and never had a problem with the fit. Should fit and look great on a Hertz car.

I suspect that amount of shims might come into play with some cars. My car has a lot of shims on the upper control arm & that pushes the tire toward the fender.

Perhaps it would be best to mount one up and try it before mounting all tires and having a problem. Thanks for the info guys.
