I am in the process of installing my first engine, the car is not a hipo car but I noticed that the holes in the motor mount don't line up, is that correct? Also I was wondering if I should put the engine and tranny in first before I put the carpet and interior back in.I took the engine out myself so I assumed it would be easy to put back in. The machine shop only put the main components together but I have to put the oil pump on, the water pump etc, is there a book that gives you the torque for the bolts? As always any help I can get is appreciated.

Hehe. I assume you are using the el cheapo motor mounts with "Made in India" or something like that on the sides?
It takes me on average of an hour to get one of these lined up and bolted in. You basically need to take apart most of the frame part of the motor mount and work things together. It's very challenging to say the least!

Hi, Is it a 67? If so, I had the exact same
problem when buying aftermarket rubber insulators.
They are supposed to be for 67-68 but only fit 68
as I believe 67's have different motor mounts.
Bought genuine Ford insulators and they slipped
right in.

Is it a 67? It's almost impossible to see
any difference as the angle of the bolt slot
is the problem and we talk about very small
dfferences.

The car is a 65 mustang T5 convertible. Here is the situation. The brackets that mount to the shock towers are perfect but there is a piece in the shape of an S almost that bolts to that piece with one hole it it. When you look accross the two shock toweres, the two holes don't line up, it looks like the holes are off centered to the side. Does any one have a picture of an engine bay with the mounts in place?

Save the interior for last! (My opinion)

Nice and slow and methodically. Cover the engine compartment painted areas with quilted material - it's not all that hard.

There are a number of books that have torque numbers, but honestly, maybe you should have a shop manual – it looks like the Mustang Depot of Las Vegas has them for $46:
