Is this a hipo motor?

  • It looks like 1K216019

    Heads are 4E28

The vibration damper is about 1 3/8" thick on outside.

The crank pulley has four belt groove pulley.

Back of block no. is 1K216039

Under starter no. is 6015-AA 2001

I am not familiar with these engines.

It came from a friends 65 Mustang.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • It would seem that the "K" in the VIN on the block is leading you to believe that this is a Hipo block. The "K" in this VIN indicates that the car was built in Kansas City. It is not for the engine type. My first thought was that the engine was originally in a 71 year car but the 2001 casting number would indicate a 2001 instead. The vibration damper is not thick enough for a Hipo. The four groove crank pulley sounds like a 64 1/2 one for A/C and P/S if it has three retaining bolts in which case it will be a cast one. You need to look at the underside of the heads where the push rods come through for the casting numbers to determine their original application. Hipo heads will have always cast in valve spring pockets and screw in studs. Screw in studs can be added to standard heads but not the cast in valve spring pockets.
