Here's what might be a dumb question, can the mechanical advance stick. Kar was run very infrequently the last few years. I checked the timing on my Kar and its showing approx 16 degrees advanced, car runs fine with no pinging, I didn't check total yet what should it be? Dwell is spot on. Damper rubber looks good but thats no guarantee. Is there a way to check the advance mech or to determine TDC without tearing the thing apart. I should know this but its been a while since playing with the original Mustangs, I've mostly been playing with the Fox body cars lately.
Distributor advance stuck?

I try to keep mine under 36 degrees total. It's easy to check if the advance is working. Just rev the engine with a timing light hooked up. You will be able to see it advance. I should be out playing in the shop in the morning. If you would like to make a trip north we could play with it some.

Yes the advance can stick. If you pull off the cap you should be able to determine if the advance is frozen by gently twisting the rotor in either direction. There should be soft, but obvious spring tension. You can also use a timing light and watch the advance run up as you bring up the RPM from idle. A couple of real simple tests.

Sounds like a good excuse to take her for a ride, what time and where are you at? I was at the University Dr. Courthouse Tuesday for jury duty and it was only about 20 min away.

Got my jury duty sumons today. Will send you a PM.
