Equalizer bar connection

  • Last week clutch linkage broke on the street. Problem was pin holding clutch equalizer bar to bottom of the Z bar failed so clutch equalizer bar worked off Z bar and fell out. Found the bar and fixed the problem with a bailing wire to drive home. Would like to make the repair correctly. What is the correct pin and washer? and/or bushing? used to secure end of clutch equalizer bar to bottom of th Z bar on a '65 K?

    Thanks, Steve

Also for Midwestern guys, I think Elkhart Lake WI Road America vintage weekend 9-14/16-07 featured make is Mustang?

  • The pin is the easy part, it's the standard Ford pin used on almost all Ford manual and automatic transmissions, p/n 352358-S2, and is available from AMK products, 4 for $3.00. The two wavy washers are not reproduced by AMK and I would imagine, not stocked by Ford dealers - p/n 358980-S or 358573-S (service part). They are described as 7/16 dia, 0.468in ID, 0.840in OD (or 0.750 for the service), and 0.031in thk, single wave. AMK does not even have anything close. At this stage, a junkyard may be the best bet unless someone knows of a 'metric' equalivent.

  • James is correct. I ordered wavy washers from AMK that were close with the hope that they could be drilled to the appropriate inside diameter and they were too thick and stiff. I also tried some metric wavy washers and they were too thick also. I've dug around in junkyards and it seems they are the first parts dropped on the ground by the yardbirds when the trans or motor is pulled. If anyone has a solution for this I'd welcome hearing about it.
