• i searched 'sealant'

    and got 6 hits.

    the Jim Osborn 'assembley manual'

states that ESB M2G 43-A and 32-A sealers were

used on the engine side of the firewall.

what is the closest modern sealers to use?

    thanks

  • i am confused

    in the '65 'assembly manual'

    on page 15

figure 1 says REGULAR PRODUCTION INSTALLATION

    and figure 2 says

    R.P.O. INSTALLATIONS

    they say the same thing

    but are different drawing

(the R.P.O. firewall has no heater)

    hmmmmmm....

was some type of sealant used

between the tunnel, gasket and shifter boot?

Never seen any type of sealant in this area, though the '66s got a lower boot on the shifter.....

  • the lower shifter boot has a wide lip that wraps all the way around and sits on top of the tunnel sheetmetal. when the top boot is attached on top of that one I don't see how any fumes could make it past the combined lips. Of course the fit of the top boot must be tight around the shifter handle

now thru the firewall area or trunk area, that's a different story.

  • the top of the boot is slightly smaller

than the boot diameter so should be okay

    will make sure though

will probably use a little silicone sealant

around the boot base after it is installed
