66 Styled Steel Wheel color

  • The 66 Styled Steel Wheel insert (between the spokes, around the rim) color - is it black, or some other color?

Has anyone matched the original color to a current rattle can or formula who can post it for the rest of us?

    Thanks!

  • Its a dark charcoal color available from most Mustang supply houses but I think the repop shade is slightly lighter than the original. Here are some pics my repainted wheel and spare which has the original insert paint which seems darker I dont know if its from age or the original shade was darker, hard to see in pictures.

  • FWIW, I've had 2 different sets of these wheels on my Mustang - reproduction - The shade was a bit different on both sets. I actually preferred the darker charcoal version to what I have now, which is more silvery. I've even considered stripping and repainting, but it's too much effort. If only I could keep the dang center caps tight so they stop falling off!!

  • Thanks for the replies, guys!

I'm going to try a charcoal, but I'd really like to hear from someone who has nailed the original color as they restored their wheels. I'll keep looking for someone to share on this site for all to benefit. We're all in this together, mates!

Is this a great hobby, or what?
