fuel pump color "gold"

  • After many months I found a button top fuel pump for my Kar, however this poor little pump was covered with oil dirt and krud. I washed it down with gas and got most of the krud off with a tooth brush(s).But it took most of the Gold plate color off the bottom of the pump...so what can I spray or apply to make this pump look stock..Thanks Brian

Brian, I rebuild these crmped fuel pumps and the lower part actually gets plated while the pump is disassembled. It cannot be plated while it is assembled and painting it will not look correct. If it is original and was covered with dirt and krud, it may not work for long anyway, especially with the newer fuel formulas.

  • Hi Fred, I was looking for a good "core" pump to send to you for a rebuild but I missed the window(date)in finding one in time. Yes the pump still pumps (by hand) have not mounted on car yet. So without your great rebuild service I'm stuck trying to get that "Gold" look...BTW you would'nt be looking at a 3rd go around rebuild offer ??

Brian, I am just now completing the assembly, boxing and shipping of the second run. I have already gotten approval from the rebuilders for a third run and I have already started collecting cores for that run.

Fred, Are the parts used by the company that is rebuilding the fuel pumps compatible with today's gasoline?

Tom, the diaphrams used by the rebuilder are indeed compatible with todays fuels. I was careful to verify this prior to starting this project.
