Rocker arm nut torque

  • Since HiPos have solid lifter cams with adjustable valves the nut is not torqued but tighted to get the correct valve lash. The nuts have an interference fit thread that stays tight but they will back off over time which is why they must be adjusted periodically.

If you have one that is loosening quickly it should be replaced. If you are going to replace all 16 you might as well get polylocks which have a jam nut and will stay tight much longer.

Having a problem with a rocker arm nut loosening.

I'm replacing all 16 to be safe.

Is 5-15 lbs torque correct for a hipo?

    Thanks

you might be experiencing a cam lobe going flat and/or lifter damage. If it's the same nut getting loose over and over that could be your problem

  • Z. Ray has a good point. Try switching the loose nut with a good one, that should tell you if the problem is the nut or elsewhere.

  • Thanks for the feedback.

Fresh engine but the shop didn't install new nuts.

A couple others wre loosening as well.

Motor has less than an hour on it.

Yikes...Hope that's all there is to this.
