Vendor story- Virginia Classic Mustang

  • Just got my order and among other things, I gotta tell you about the paint and my customer service when I called.

    Catalog and invoice states:

    KR-1612 - Semi-Gloss Black engine paint

KR-1923 Ford Corporate Blue Engine paint

Now we all know part numbers and we all know that Krylon 1923 is Ford Corporate Blue and that Krylon 1612 is Black Semi Gloss.

Their part numbers and descriptions make me believe that they are selling Krylon 1923 and Krylon 1612 paint. What they sell is actually VHT paint - New Ford Blue and GM semi-gloss black.

When I called, the guy who answered was rude and argumentative. A later call with the owner got the problem resolved for me. He's a good guy and easy to talk to. A true Mustang man.

  • I usually do not post on this board, but I just thought that I would this time.

Here at Virginia Classic Mustang, we take a tremendous amount of pride in our products and customer service. We think that because of this, we have been around for almost 30 years.

I will not go into specific details on this matter; but I will say that we currently do not handle Krylon paint, and it does not state in our catalog that we handle Krylon paint.

I will also add that the VHT paint that we currently handle is of very high quality. We have had great success with it, and I have used it myself with excellent results.

I personally called the original poster, straightened out the problem and had a great conversation with this very nice gentleman.

We have a "contact us" form on our web site. If anyone ever has a question about a product, we will do our absolute best to answer your question honestly. You, of course, can also give us a call.

Thanks for taking your time to read my post.

  • VCM has been one of my favorite vendors, their service has always been top drawer and any issues were quickly resolved with a phone call. We used them almost exclusively restoring Parnelli Jones' `70 BOSS 302 over the last few months. My only bitch about VCM is that they aren't in California.

Look for a Feature on Parnelli's BOSS in the upcoming May Issue of "Mustang Monthly".

  • Just got a call from Donald Farr (Editor "MM") and the May Issue should be in your mailboxes within the next few days!

  • Obviously, the part numbers were created back when VCM was stocking Krylon and they didn't change them when they went to VHT. This is an instance of the customer knowing too much (we'll have to eliminate you now, Troy). My only complaint about VCM was that it took them a long time to really get online, and then to allow web ordering and communication. I always mailed my orders in because I absolutely hate calling in an order. They are one of 4 vendors that I collectively do 99% of my purchasing from, going all the way back to the early 1990's. They are also the only one with the early fastback carpet with door sill vinyl, so I'll be ordering from them again. Let us know how the paint looks to you, Troy! I think most of the vendors stock VHT paint now, so hopefully it is good.
