  • Emails with photos have been sent, thank you. Just so that everybody is aware, this balancer has no date code as Ford machined / trued the outer diameter of the balancer before engraving the 360* timing marks. This would make this balancers application range from January of 1964 (introduction of the C50E or 1965 part numbers) through late 1967. This has a C50E A casting number and the original box has a C50Z-C part number.

  • has there been any proof that the degree markings were done by Ford, and not done by any machine shop at a later date. I have seen NUMEROUS hi-po balancers that have had the full degreeing timing marks added, and they are INDISTINGUISHABLE from this one. I don't see how there should be price premium for a fully degreed Hi-Po balancer since ANY competent machine shop can do the job for a few dollars.

I have another balancer that has been done EXACTLY like this one on a ORIGINAL competition engine, you are correct though any competent machine shop could make 360* of timing marks on a balancer, I have seen them too. The timing marks that were applied to this balancer involved machining the outer diameter of te balancer so that it was completely concentric (which removed the original timing marks and date code), machining another 1/4" (approx.) step just slightly deeper than the first operation next to the bevel cut at the rear of the balancer and then applied the full 360* of timing marks to the concentric surface just in front of the 1/4" step cut. I'm finding it really strange how people say they have seen my parts but I don't ever recall them being emailed photos or seeing them in my garage?! Happy hunting and good luck!

P.S. I never said that the premium was for the timing marks, maybe because it's NOS?!

  • I'm ID'ing your balancer from your own description of the extra machining done in addition to the hash marks on the circumference. I have seen several done the same way, and it is the nature of machining metal that a technique from the '60's can be perfectly duplicated in 2010 right down to the patina.

I think you are touting the "fully degreed" aspect of the balancer to justify the $950 asking price, as NOS balancers routinely sell for half that amount.

I don't begrudge your efforts to get the maximum dollar for your part, just pointing out why I don't think it's worth it. Just my opinion based on 40 years observation of the market for such parts.

So if this balancer is actually a legitimate "original" race part in "NOS" condition in the original "FORD" box what would this part be worth? By the way please read the last post I made, that is the reason for the price. If you have one of these exactly the same as I described that is cheaper $$$ than I have this one listed for I'll buy it from you, I'm waiting. I have my opinions as well but you know what they say about opinions.

as I have already mentioned, in my opinion, it is worth about 1/2 of what you are asking.

    zray's logic

$950 for NOS original competition balancer in the origianl box (my posted ad)

$550 for used stock balancer in unknown condition (another forum ad)

$500 for used stock balancer that is completely restored (my ad)

$302.50 for a new reproduction balancer (Cobra Automotive, ebay ad)

Above are listed prices of various hipo harmonic balancers that are listed here and elsewhere on the internet. Now if my NOS hipo competition harmonic balancer is worth 1/2 ($475) of what I am asking (according to zray), where does that put the other balancers listed above or elsewhere on the internet?!

If NOS hipo harmonic balancers are "ROUTINELY" selling for $475 I want to know where these are being advertised for sale because I've never seen them for sale at that price?! I as well as others reading your babble would like to buy one!!!

I just have to laugh, I see stock USED balancers posted on this site for sale at more than 1/2 of what I am asking for this original NOS GT350R balancer that is still in it's original box. This balancer needs nothing, no restoration, no paint, nothing...........just a worthy engine to install it on.

  • Hi Fast Fords

Thank you for your input on this subject. It seems that I get the same two hecklers on my posts. If we were using their logic (being kind) I would have to give away or pay someone to take anything I had that was used and needed any kind of restoration work to make the piece usable.

I emailed photos to you, please let me know if you have any other questions, thank you.
