HiPo Rear Leaf Springs

  • Hi guys,

Does anybody have an extra pair of 1965

Fastback bottom leafs. My springs were given to

a friend back in 1988-89 when I replaced my originals

and correct markings etc. didn't mean that much.

    They must be marked:

    C4ZA-5556-K, L, S or Y (preferably S) and dated not later

than May 3 1965. Thanks for your help.

    /Bo

  • Another qustion about leaf springs.

How do you read the date codes and

what does the E stand for? Every spring

I have seen has the E on them, both for HiPo's

    and non-HiPo's.

Example 131 E5, does it mean the 131:st

    day of 1965?

    Thanks,

    /Bo

  • Bo,

My rear leafs on my '67 KGT have an "E" on them as well; please see the "Competition Handling Package" thread for photos. Since it well known that Ford's vendor for leaf springs was Eaton, do you think the "E" could stand for Eaton? Just a thought!

    Tom

  • I have been thinking the same thing

about the E but have no proof. Used to

believe it was a part of the date code

but as all cars seems to have the E

it could be the manufacturer's abbreviation.

    /Bo

  • I had heard a while back that Eaton was the OEM supplier to Ford for the Mustang leaf springs in the 60's, but when I ordered springs once, I asked them about that and they said it was not true. They simply have the engineering drawings for all the springs.

  • Charles,

Just out of curiosity, do you know who the OEM vendor was?

Is it possible that the person, you placed your order with, gave you some incorrect information? I'm not trying to pick nits, just playing the devil's advocate!

    Tom

  • Thanks Charles,

It looks like 131 E5 even though the

third figure (1) is difficult to see.

Maybe that means day 131 in 65 which would

translate to May 65. A friend has exactly

the same dates on his 65 Shelby which was

produced at Ford in the end of May.

The springs I need should probably be around

    120 E5 to match my May 5-10 prod.date.

Anybody has a pair? Have stuff to trade or

    will buy outright.

    Thanks,

    /Bo

  • The pic below is from one of my original rear springs, both springs have the same numbers. The car is a late March 66 San Jose car, I agree with Bo's theory on the date codes which in my case would be the 16th day of 1966 and fits the car pretty well. There is still the mysterious "E".

Any other mid-late 66 owners with original rear springs that can chime in on this?
