Advice on Having my Kar Painted

  • I'm considering having my Kar repainted. The kar was restored about 30 years ago and still looks great but there are a couple of chips in the paint and other things that just happen over time.

I figured I'd reach out for advice and/or experiences that others have had. Anything not too obvious I should consider? Also, should I redo the underbody of the kar at the same time?

I have a quote from someone local who I think is pretty good to do the job for about $7k which seems reasonable.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated as always. Thanks in advance. Eric

  • Price sounds MORE than reasonable. Please check references, and look at at least a handful of cars that he's done at a similar price.

  • There are many different understandings on paint and if that is him taking the car apart and repainting and putting it back together that is a deal. However make sure you get the work list in writing as if something happens you want to be able to have a path to follow afterwards.

  • That is a very low price, $10K with little body work will be more like it, be sure you have each step written down, as in strip, primer, sand, primer, sand, base coat, base coat, sand, base coat, sand, clear coat, clear coat, sand, buff. also, be sure it names a high quality, paint/primer and the color exactly what you want. pay in installments for completion of a part, i.e., strip, all priming completed and inspected, then the paint, and a major portion of the quoted price paid after the car is absolutely completed. Let us know what you decide and how it progresses.
