After restoring my standard AM radio to operation, I read somewhere that the dial of the radio changed a bit from '65 to '66. I have a '65 Kar with a radio dial that begins with a "5" digit. The label on the bottom is too worn to read, and I see no stamped date codes.

Has this topic been covered in a thread before? If you know of one, please send me a link. I couldn't find one when I performed a site search.

    Thanks in advance!

There's still good oil out there. Use Brad Penn Racing oil. Not expensive by the case - I think I bought one for $42 in Greensboro. Most anywhere that you have a stock car presence you will find Brad Penn, and you can buy it online as well. For other options, check Charles Navarro's site, http://www.LNEngineering.com. I think he has a complete discussion of the problem and various solutions.

Is there a member who has a copy who could look up some numbers for me? Someone out there must have a copy. I'd like to pinpoint my assembly line dates to check against my door plate. From what I've read on the Forum, actual assembly could have been weeks ahead of or behind the door plate date, which was 01Q (March 1, 1965). I haven't checked the old newspaper records yet to see if 65 was a strike year, which could have affected the line, etc.

    Thanks in advance!

From reading the Marti web site, I gather that the records on our 64.5-66 cars are no longer around. However, given the level of enthusiasm for Mustangs, I wonder if someone may have gathered data on this group of cars. I find it hard to believe that a technician pressed a "delete" button on a computer and they disappeared. These were probably paper records.

Is there a reliable database of 64.5-66 cars regarding when they were manufactured? Would the Vehicle Warranty Number on the plate tell when a car actually came off the line, since the scheduled build date may not have been an actual build date?

All these numbers; it's so confusing...

Can someone speak to the location of part and date code numbers for fenders on a 65? I am thinking that they may be on the lip that fastens to the subframe and lies under the closed hood.

Examples of what they look like or how to interpret would be good, if anyone has a comment or picture to contribute.

    Thanks,

Somewhat related to this thread, can anyone who had and/or has disc brakes as originally fitted on their 64-67 Kar comment on their operation? Remarks were made on the Vintage Mustang Forum about disc-braked Kars that made the units out to be problematic: sticking, corrosion problems, and upkeep were the chief complaints.

Were there problems with the proportioning valves as well?

Does anyone have a discussion thread or research to offer regarding when disc brakes first appeared on the Ks, and how as well? For instance:

    * Were they an optioned item or stock, and when for either or both?

    * Was there a Kar serial number involved in when they appeared?

    * Was there any preference among the body types or what factory they emerged from?

    Thanks!

Many on this forum have asked about or commented on the complexity in translating date codes from part to part, since there is not a consistent method in dating the different parts. I have puzzled over the variety of date code styles on my 1965, and I am only dealing with one production year.

Has anyone on the forum seen a book that compiles ALL of the date-coding methods used on these cars and their parts? I've read several books that have interpreted date codes for this part or that part, but have not found one that does it all. It seems that there is either a book out there, or a need for one. Suggestions, anyone?

I am looking for the air extractor assemblies for my 65 FB. I noticed that the aftermarket catalogs sell these for 1967 and later. Is there a satisfactory aftermarket air extractor available for 1965, and from which company?

If not, does anyone have a restored set they'd like to sell?

    Thanks!

Would someone indicate how to translate the numbers on the rear leaf? I have a 65K FB. Are the leafs different for the different models, plants, etc? Sorry, my leafs are not here with me right now. A couple of hypothetical examples would help greatly.

    Thanks!

    Greg:

Thanks for the link. Nice example pictures! In that, however, you state your bumper is appropriate for a June 65 onward Kar. Some items changed as the model year progressed, such as the exhaust system, etc, and March/April appears to have been a change point.

My 3rd edition of Gregory's ref book does not have a picture of the bumper assy. Does anyone out there have a picture of what would be right for a March Kar?

If the snubber plate is the bumper assembly that goes on the axle, I need one and the bumper too, because somebody removed mine from the Kar 'way back when. It's a March 1 Dearborn, so I take it that the bumper is on the axle plate. Anyone have a source for a replacement?

I guess I needed to give some more detail about why I wanted to compare the two. I have a hearing problem amplified by certain resonances, so I wanted to be able to enjoy driving the car. This is why I want to compare the two different sounds and levels created by the two different systems.

I will call NPD in Charlotte to see if they have a customer or two willing to be contacted. I have called Joe in Michigan as well, waiting to hear back from him. I just thought I'd poll the list first to see if any Carolinians would like to volunteer a listen to their system.

    Thanks for the feedback!

My March 65 Kar would have been an Arvinoder, but it had since been replaced with what Ford dealers subsequently used due to noise complaints. Of course, this too has rotted with time.

I am at the restoration step wherein I purchase a new exhaust, and the restoration discussions posted recently are quite illuminating regarding what to have, how they sound, etc.

Here's my question: does anyone in the Carolinas region have an Arvinode installed? I'd like to hear one in person to decide whether to go back to it as original, or whether to just move on as Ford did and install a replacement system. Besides the Carolinas, I will be visiting the CT area and Michigan this summer, so if anyone in these areas has a system on, please respond.

    Thanks,
