    I’ve seen references to FORD offering dealer installed accessory kits to “ turn your Mustang into a GT”. I would have no idea how many people would have done that but could explain some kars like this. I don’t know how extensive the kit was, mechanical like disc brakes or just cosmetic. Kits could have been installed pre-sale. Wonder if people back then didn’t know or care about proper dates and to this day folks are convinced they have a factory GT. With nothing in the VIN to identify a GT or not. other than being too early…..

    Supposedly the pony interior was available as kit. That would be on the data plate though.

    I could never find a whole bunch of info on these kits.
