    • THE STORY

    • Presented in factory correct Rangoon Red with a matching red vinyl interior, this 1965 K-Code Mustang Coupe is an exceedingly early example. In fact, it’s believed to be one of the very first K-Codes built. The 289/271 HP HiPo V-8 engine has been dressed with finned Cobra valve covers and a chrome air cleaner, and paired with the factory BorgWarner 4-speed manual transmission.
    • A very special engine indeed, a symphony of specialized components, such as solid lifters, a dual-point distributor, and an Autolite 600 CFM carburetor, conspires to create such high horsepower and a 10.5:1 compression ratio. The chassis is fitted with the Special Handling Package, which includes heavy-duty coil springs, special shock absorbers, larger-diameter anti-roll bars and a quick-ratio steering box, all part of the K-Code formula. Out back, the chassis also hosts a 3.89:1 rear end with a 9-inch ring gear, providing spectacular pounce out of the hole. Previously owned by Joe McMurrey, it was the first Mustang added to his collection and was also listed in Tony Gregory’s book, “The 289 High Performance Mustang.” The interior features bucket seats, a full-length center console, the pushbutton AM radio and full instrumentation including the 8,000 RPM Rally Pac. Rolling on redline tires with steel wheels and full-size standard wheel covers, the exterior is fitted with bumper guards, requisite badging, rocker moldings, FORD hood lettering, driver’s sideview mirror and more, all lending to the classically-styled original Mustang.

  • I would question the "factory Borg Warner 4 speed transmission" as it was supposed to have a Ford toploader. My thought is that this statement is in error along with the "full instrumentaion" which it does not have. I believe that the possible errors in the description were a Mecum auction error.
