Tony Gregory is alive and well, but is involved in other career pursuits that do not allow him to be here on an active basis at this time.

He wrote "The Book" in the early 90's and the First Edition is copywrited 1994. The Second Edition came along in 1996, and includes a Registry with 692 cars listed. In those early days, cars were added to the registry without the aid of the <i>World Wide Web</i>. Tony mainly used magazine ads and word of mouth to encourage K Mustang owners to respond with their information for the Registry.

As time passed, supplies of the Second Edition began to run out, and author Tony Gregory had become deeply involved with family and career obligations that took his time and attention away from the book and Registry. He agreed to allow Marv Shaner to take charge of working on the continuation the Registry that he had started, as well as producing an expanded Third Edition of his book. Although Marv paid for and did all the work producing the Third Edition, Tony retained full editorial control over the project.

By 2002, the Internet was in full swing, with all sorts of websites and message boards dedicated to "special interests", including cars. Marv decided to launch this website with the help of webmaster Hank (aka "RacCol") in that year as a way to allow the legacy of the K code Mustang, and the Registry, to continue. Using the powerful Internet tools provided by Hank, site owner Marv was able to add more and more High Performance Mustangs to the Registry. When the Third Edition was released in May of 2003, there were well over 900 cars included.

With the expanded coverage and interest in the 289 High Performance Mustang provided by this website, the Third Edition sold steadily over the following years, and it became necessary for Marv to think about producing yet another printing when his supply of books began to run low. Unfortunately, there was a fire at the printer's shop that destroyed the masters for the book, and Marv was faced with the challenge of reproducing the book page by page, in a digital format.

Some of the photos had to be replaced along the way, and new ones were added as well.

By this time, 4 year's worth of additional technical information had been gathered regarding the K code Mustangs, mainly due to active participation of members of this website who contribute to the base of knowledge through their posts and emails. The list of cars in the Registry expanded as well, and was over 1,490 by the time the printing deadline came for the Fourth Edition. As before, Tony Gregory retained final control over the book and it's contents, while Marv did the hard work to produce it and pay for the cost of printing.

Hopefully, this will help those who are interested understand what goes on "behind the scenes" a little bit better. We all owe our thanks to Tony Gregory for providing the original editions of his book, and for allowing Marv to reissue the book in the expanded Third and Fourth Editions. When you think of it, this is quite an accomplishment, and it doesn't happen very often when a book about such a specific topic is written.

  • Thanks for providing that info Gene as I have been on a hiatas. I've had some health issues and am now recovery from surgery. Over the next week or so I should be more active on the site. It's good to see the site still going well.

We all echo the sentiment. On the sixth anniversary of this site, it's sad to think that Marv has to deal with recovery from his surgery. Here's hoping he is comfortable, and is making progress to a full recovery.
