Greetings from Colorado - Just bought a '65 K-Coupe

  • Hello all,

I've had a lot of Mustangs but the garage has been without one for about 5 years now. I got a line on a very original 65 hardtop this summer and spent a few months putting a deal together for it. I finally brought it home last week.

The owner was a very nice older gentleman who was more interested in the car going to a good home than he was in squeezing every last dollar out of the sale. I plan on keeping it as-is; complete with rock chips, blemishes and all. They are only original once, right?

I'm looking forward to the ownership experience. I've always been partial to '67s but this one is growing on me pretty quickly :-).

  • Thanks!

Here are some pics from the day I picked it up.

  • Immediate issues I am addressing:

    • I replaced the gas tank with a new unit from Virginia Mustang (bore scope showed what looked like the bottom of the ocean in the tank, along with plenty of visible rust). I've been running it off a gas can just to move it around.
    • The original Kelsey-Hayes proportioning valve for the rear drums was leaking badly, so I have no brakes other than the emergency brake. Rebuild kit from NPD just arrived today, so I am hoping it works (I have heard mixed results but trying it myself before next steps).
    • The tires are good enough for around the block but I'll need new ones for any meaningful driving.

Other than that, it's good. Once I get it out for a proper test drive, we'll see what else pops up.
