I have no skin in the game but I'm keeping an eye on this to see how it goes. I have the same kar, '65, non-GT, ivy green coupe. Mine is an unrestored survivor and very original. This one has obviously had some work done. Interesting to see the differences between them. Just posting for fun. Lots of comments to read.

I have a '65 k-code, non-GT coupe. It has factory disc brakes, styled steel wheels and a deluxe interior, and of course a 4-spd, along with a few other options.

Some of the guys at my local Mustang club were guessing at the reason my kar was ordered the way it was and came to the conclusion that maybe it was not ordered at all and might have been a dealer display/demo and just bought off the lot. That, or maybe ordered by someone who wanted to fly below the radar (no fastback, stripes, fogs or badges; just a sleeper coupe).

I'm not looking to create additional (or fictional 8o) value for the kar, just curious if non-GT k-coupes might be uncommon.

    Immediate issues I am addressing:

    • I replaced the gas tank with a new unit from Virginia Mustang (bore scope showed what looked like the bottom of the ocean in the tank, along with plenty of visible rust). I've been running it off a gas can just to move it around.
    • The original Kelsey-Hayes proportioning valve for the rear drums was leaking badly, so I have no brakes other than the emergency brake. Rebuild kit from NPD just arrived today, so I am hoping it works (I have heard mixed results but trying it myself before next steps).
    • The tires are good enough for around the block but I'll need new ones for any meaningful driving.

Other than that, it's good. Once I get it out for a proper test drive, we'll see what else pops up.

    Hello all,

I've had a lot of Mustangs but the garage has been without one for about 5 years now. I got a line on a very original 65 hardtop this summer and spent a few months putting a deal together for it. I finally brought it home last week.

The owner was a very nice older gentleman who was more interested in the car going to a good home than he was in squeezing every last dollar out of the sale. I plan on keeping it as-is; complete with rock chips, blemishes and all. They are only original once, right?

I'm looking forward to the ownership experience. I've always been partial to '67s but this one is growing on me pretty quickly :-).
