How a HIPO is different

  • A lot — I’ll get it started but I’m sure I’ll leave some things out:

    Solid valve lifters, pistons, cam

    Carb

    Alternator

    9” rear & snubber

    Top loader transmission

    8K Tach

    Exhaust manifolds

Dual exhaust (was also an option on D codes I believe)

  • 64 1/2 Generator with larger diameter pulley

Rear floor section that mounts shock absorbers is setup for dual exhaust with different placement for brake hose and different pinion snubber plate spot welded to panel.

    Fuel pump for higher RPM

    Larger and heavier harmonic balancer.

    Heavier duty main bearing caps.

Special crankshaft with counterweight and special crank sprocket.

Special timing chain and cam sprocket on early models.

    Special rod bearings.

    Special flywheel.

Special 10 1/2" clutch pressure plate and disc.

    Special water pump.

Special dual point centrifugal advance distributor.

Special steel core plug wires were used only on Kars without factory installed radio. Kars with a factory installed radio received normal radio resistance spark plug wires.

Special heads with screw in rocker studs and valve spring pockets cast into heads.

    Special valve springs and retainers.

    Chrome rocker arm covers.

    Manual choke.

Heavier front sway bar which was later used on the GT models.

Special shock absorbers that were later part of the GT models.

Special front and rear springs that were later part of the GT models.

Other than these minor differences, the Hipo Mustang is the same. :)

Truly a bargain for the reasonable price difference from standard Mustangs.
