This can vary widely with sending unit manufacturers and possible gauge needles being bent. The best way to check this is with an infrared thermometer. Generally, about 1/4 to 1/3 gauge is normal. If the fuel, temp and oil pressure gauge all read high, you can have a bad CVR. Constant voltage regulator.

If you have access to a mechanical gauge you could try that. Years and years ago I was lucky to have a friend with a Stewart Warner setup I used for a while to get a reference for the factory gauge.
