• hi can any one tell me were should the needle on the engine temp gauge read with a 180 Thempstat on my 289 hp thank you. Jim

This can vary widely with sending unit manufacturers and possible gauge needles being bent. The best way to check this is with an infrared thermometer. Generally, about 1/4 to 1/3 gauge is normal. If the fuel, temp and oil pressure gauge all read high, you can have a bad CVR. Constant voltage regulator.
