It is sad that some people, even when given the proper information, put profit over integrity.

That's so true.

Do you have any idea what material the reproductions were made of? Originals were not cast iron. Originals were made in SAE 1030 steel.
Ford wise there were several "COBRA" versions for Cobras (five bolt engines), Sunbeam Tigers marked "TIGER", six bolt 289 engines marked "COBRA", 427 Cobras marked "COBRA", a five bolt 260/289 "WEDGE" marked one for Cyclone's own markets, and a two piece "WEDGE M/T" marked assembly Mickey Thompson offered for five bolt 260/289 engines.

The repros were supposedly made of cast steel. Here's another example of a reproduction vs an original. The reproduction is on the left. I understand that originals were cast of 4135 chrome moly steel. I believe 1030 is mild steel.

SAE 1030 is what is called out of the factory drawings for COBRA five bolt housings.
-
They even made a COUGAR version in the 6-bolt design. It's the only one I've ever seen.
-
That has to be rare. I have been hunting an unmolested COUGAR intake for 4-2V Weber carburetors to take pictures of.
-
Yea, that's what I've read too but I'm not on here to debate what they were made of, just to hopefully keep people from buying reproductions advertised as original.
-
By the way, the bellhousings made by R.C. Industries out of Medina, Ohio were made of some tough stuff called Manganese-Moly.
-
Here's the 6-bolt, 2-pc design from Wedge. It has the same part number with the dashes as an OEM Cobra bellhousing, C5DA-6392-A.
4135 chrome moly steel also known as Chrome Moly (aka chromoly) (so named for 2 key elements of its composition, chromium and molybdenum).
The “35” at the end of the grade number designates that it has approximately 0.35% carbon by weight. The added chromium and molybdenum help to give the steel different properties from its mild steel counterpart, AISI 1030, even though they have the same percentage of carbon.

Here's the 1-piece 6-bolt WEDGE design. There are no part numbers inside this one.
