Here's the 1-piece 6-bolt WEDGE design. There are no part numbers inside this one.

The one sold by 1rockingd was an original. The one sold by v8er was a reproduction.
Thanks for the update on this. The buyers would have been more up to speed before purchasing, if they had read this thread. The buyers probably are not on this forum. We appreciate your education on these.

Yes, thanks, one easy way to tell if a Cobra 6-bolt is original or reproduction is by the part number embossed inside. Originals have dashes between the numbers. Reproductions have no dashes. I hope this will keep somebody from buying a reproction advertised as original.

The one for sale on Ebay from v8er is a reproduction.

Here's the 6-bolt, 2-pc design from Wedge. It has the same part number with the dashes as an OEM Cobra bellhousing, C5DA-6392-A.
4135 chrome moly steel also known as Chrome Moly (aka chromoly) (so named for 2 key elements of its composition, chromium and molybdenum).
The “35” at the end of the grade number designates that it has approximately 0.35% carbon by weight. The added chromium and molybdenum help to give the steel different properties from its mild steel counterpart, AISI 1030, even though they have the same percentage of carbon.

COBRA / WEDGE STEEL BELLHOUSING, SCATTERSHIELD C5DA-6392-A IDENTIFICATION
Over the years I have seen many discussions about how to tell if a 6-bolt Cobra Wedge bellhousing is original or reproduction. Well, here's the way you can tell immediately.
Look at the part number inside the bellhousing. If there are no dashes between the letters/numbers, it's a reproduction. Authentic pieces will have dashes. Looking at the outside, the mounting holes in the reproduction are usually but not always drilled slightly off center and the casting voids are different. see photos. The reproduction is on the left in both photos. I have many examples if anybody is interested.
With the exception of a few, most of the ones I've seen for sale on Ebay have been reproductions. I contacted the sellers and told them but they sold them as authentic anyway.Repro on left 02 no dashes.jpg

The repros were supposedly made of cast steel. Here's another example of a reproduction vs an original. The reproduction is on the left. I understand that originals were cast of 4135 chrome moly steel. I believe 1030 is mild steel.
