Heads and rods questions?

  • Judging from your limited pictures, the rods have the correct casting for 289 rods, both standard and Hipo. The difference is the bolt size and distance between bolt centers. My guess on the heads due to the T/E port plugs would make these C8ZE castings which were the last available replacement Hipo head castings. They could also be a very elusive set of C7ZE heads with the T/E setup but highly unlikely as they were California only heads and very late in production.

  • The new pictures add more clarity as to what the heads are. The date code is 7G11? If so, these will have C7ZE on the bottom side of the heads. The date code will be too late for production heads so therefore they would be service parts. The holes for the T/E system will make them California heads. I do not quite know what is taking place at the T/E holes by the exhaust port as it does not appear to be very cleanly finished. The push rod slots have been drilled out most likely because one or more slots were worn. This will require guide plates to be used which is easy on Hipo heads due to the screw in rocker arm studs. The best guide plates to use on these are the C9OX plates that came out in the Ford Muscle Parts program.
