Original Cobra 6 bolt 289 Hi-Po blow proof bell housing / scatter shield for Shelby GT350 . Up for auction is an original Cobra scatter shield for a 6 bolt 289 302 engine. Shelby American has these blow proof bell housings specifically made for them in the 1960’s by a bellhousing MFG. named Wedge . Wedge was one of the major safety bell housing manufacturers during the 1960’s. These were made for Shelby with the Cobra lettering on them. Cast out of a high quality 4135 chrome moly steel these offered protection from an untimely clutch explosion during competition use. They were made for the both the early 5 bolt engines and the later 6 bolt engines. This is the 6 bolt version that was introduced in 1965 for the 289 Hi-Po but it will fit the 260 -289 -302 and 351W engines that have a standard 10.5” clutch and 157 tooth ring gear flywheel . This bell housing has all of the correct markings . Wedge , NHRA approved and the part number C5DA-6392-A . It will take standard factory block plate. These are sought after because of their originality and also because they actually fit like a standard bell housing without the need of trimming headers and clutch linkage etc. This one has hardly been used . A nice piece to add to your Ford small block powered drive train. Winner pays actual UPS shipping cost. Good luck bidding !

Thought you might like to know your bellhousing is not an original. It's definitely a reproduction. Original ones have dashes between the part numbers, reproduction ones do not. There are obvious ways to tell by viewing the outside as well. Both pics have the repro on the left.

Here is a rare cast iron Bellhousing that was coupled to a 289 engine.Also known as a scatter shield,it keeps an exploding clutch from doing harm to your legs.It is very heavy,my guess is around 40 pounds,has 5 cast in ridges and most impotantly the right numbers.All holes are good,there are no cracks.
