You re probably right but I don't find any specialist in France to do the job that s to say identifying what I already have, identifying what I need to have for having a complete engine and having the know how for realizing the operation.
Maybe have you an address for me ?
Yves
Yves,
I am in Germany and I can assist you to identify what you have.
I have two K-Cars and a some K-parts that I can take pictures of.
Especially the differences between real K-blocks and those that have been fitted with Mexican main caps. Easy because I have a mexican block to compare side to side.
I can also recommend a very good shop here in Germany that can repair most any damaged HiPo (or other) engines.
The bad news (for you) - none of my parts are for sale.
Greetings
Michael
Thanks for the great info !
The one I bought is a repro, none the less I think a great addition to any K-Code powered vehicle.
Any issues with fitment? I take it that it should dial indicated as any non OEM bellhousing.
Greetings from Germany
Mike
Hello!
I was on the old forum, but dont remeber my nick..
I own one of 4 known 66 T5 K-Code GT convertibles.
My car war special ordered by the owner of a German Ford dealership.
After going thru several hands an subsequently sitting for more than 20 years I aquired it with a mere 16.000 km.
Still sporting its original top, engine and drivetrain it is a real joy to drive - but I try to add as few km as possible. Actual reading, just shy of 20.000

I bought a wheel kit from CJ (not for my K-Code!) - guess its a KSR deal.
The wheel itself ist good, but the center cap was a complete disappointment - neither the finish, nor the font of the lettering is anywhere near the original. Just plain too ugly to use. Ended up using my original cap.
No issues with the wheel or horn ring or contacts - works and looks fine.

Wow, a lot of really nice cars.
First sighting of mine: 1966 T5 GT K-code with less than 20.000KM

Cool another T5 !
I have been working on the resto of my 66 T5 K-Code GT Conv. for about 2 years now.
As far as the T5 registry is concerned, there are only two other 66 known.
One is in the US and the other in Switzerland. We had 2/3 of the worlds population of these Kars at my hose this last summer.
Hope to have it back on the road by spring & show it at the 25th Aniversary of the German Mustang Club in Mai.
Would be cool to exchange informations.
Greetings from germany
Mike
Yuk, looks almost as bad as mine did..

Hi Mark,
well, that was an easy fix! Also means that you have a 65 GT, because the ammeter wiring is unlike that on the 66.
Other places to look for that build sheet are the doors, under the carpet and under the seats.
Maybe there are other common places that I don´t know about - the experts will probably chime in.
Cheers
Mike

Thanks Mike, I have looked behind there now as I had to remove the gauges to repair the heater cables, no sheet, but did find the main ALT cable not routed thru ammeter loop - unplugged it passed it thru and bingo ammeter OK.

Hello Fred,
appreciate your offer.
I am almost set on the woodgrain wheel. There is a guy in Austria that re-rims the wheel with real wood. I looks & feels fantastic - if not "correct"
The plan was going with the Shelby center cap & add the Pony emblem to it.
T5 Emblems - yes that would be nice. I have gathered some stuff but not a real good set. My car was delivered with exactly this setup:
[Blocked Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v126/jimerc21/t5gt/IMG_2709.jpg]
The GT I already have - but as I said still looking for a nice set of T5 emblems.
mark_old I found my build sheet wrapped around the main wiring harness behind the instrument cluster.
Regarding the Amp Meter - They have never been very responsive at all. You will hardly notice a little deflection when switching on the headlamps - Thats the way it is...
Greeting
Mike

Michael, If you decide to go with a standard steering wheel, I have the correct T-5 horn ring. I also have T-5 replacement inserts for your T-5 emblems if yours are worn looking. If you do not have your T-5 emblems at all, I am pretty sure that I have them as well.

Hello Fred,
thanks for your info's, I really appreciate them.
I will also use styled steel wheels with Fairlane centers - but have not decided yet on the gas cap - or the wheel center. That will have to wait until after paint.
I have found & documented a whole bunch of factory markings, and I also have found the build sheet to boost.
I will be happy to share that info with anyone here.
I will probably bug you all with a lot more questions - as the restoration progresses.
Have a nice day
Mike

To the best of our knowledge, Ford did not ship T5's with gas caps but rather a plastic plug to fill the hole. The 65 with the Mustang word machined out has only been seen in reproduction form as far as I know. Pro Products made them up a long time ago but as yet I have not heard of an original one. I am certainly open to correction on this. A lot of the T5's got locking gas caps because they did not say Mustang. I also understand that you could purchase a Mustang gas cap and install it after delivery because then it was no longer Ford infringing on the trademark. The cap that I had on the Kar was an original normal Mustang GT cap that I had the outer ring, where the Mustang word is, machined down to eliminate the lettering for Ford Mustang. I then had it rechromed. I never intended this to represent what Ford actually did but only what I thought that they should have done. I felt that this went along with the Fairlane and Ford horn cap casting for the wood grain wheel that did not have the Ford Mustang wording. The center caps on the styled steel wheels in 66 were Fairlane as well.

Hello Fred,
Cool! Nice meeting you. Yes, I know the car. Saw it in Monte Carlo a few years back, when it was still owned by Emanuel. I am also know and I am in contact with the current owner from Switzerland.
Could you shed some light on a question of the T5 GT gas cap? Looks like it is a "normal" 66 GT cap with no changes - unlike the T5 cap with the deleted Mustang script.
Mike
Hi everyone,
my name is Michael, I am from Germany.
I have been a Mustang fan since I first saw one in the 60s. I have had & restored several over the years. Last year I was asked to take a look at a "rare" Mustang and what i found is this:
A 66 T5 GT convertible with a mere 18000 km.
The car was ordered for the owner of Germany's largest importer of T5s (as Mustangs had to be called in Germany due to copyright issues)
In the early 70s a later owner modified it for slalom races and after that it was stored - for the next 30 years.
I still had the org. exhaust, fan belt, water pump and most all org. parts when I finally bought it last summer.

[Blocked Image: http://www.ponysite.de/kcodeconv_sinsheim08_2.jpg]
The story was featured on the Mustang news site: http://www.ponysite.de/news22.htm
The car is in the process of beeing completly rebuild, trying to retain as much of the org. parts as possible and using only NOS parts.
BTW, I am looking for a water pump rebuild kit
Besides the K-Code I also have an early production 65 GT Convertible and a 68 Shelby GT500
