My kar has a scheduled build date of Jan 11, 1965 and the engine assembly date that is stamped in the boss on the driver's side front of the engine is 5A14B. The engine has the VIN stamped on the passenger side lower front just above the oil pan but is a January 14 assemply date too late for this to be the original engine?

This looks correct to me. As Charles Turner has repeatedly said, the date code is purely a scheduled date. It is not unreasonable for your Kar to have an engine produced after the scheduled date as Hipo engines were not produced in the mass quantities of the standard engines.
