Here is an Ebay auction for one used C5OE bare head by Ebay member " sjperf" with a starting bid of $29.99:

This is a 1965, casting number, pre-owned cylinder head(1 only) for a Mustang, Fairlane Hi-Po 289 cu.in. engine. Casting Number: C50E, Date Code: 4M17. The head is bare without, intake or exhaust valves, springs, retainers, valve keys, valve seals, rocker studs or other related valve train items. The head has been thermal cleaned, blasted and mag tested(no indications of any cracks). There is minor damage to one combustion chamber(see images).

Applicatioin: 1963-1967 Ford 289 Hi-Po V-8 engine in a Mustang or Fairlane.

Very nice set of heads that were refurbished by the previous owner several years ago. Hipo number 20, with spring cups, with screw in rocker studs, 289 with 2 dots. Matching set C5OE dated 5D27 and 5D28. No damage or porting I can see. Notice a bit of a scratch on the deck, see pic. Shipping quote is for continental US only. The seller seems to be honest in their description but does not truly understand the significance of the cracks around the studs. These cracks usually happen from using aftermarket studs, of which some are meant for Chevy heads. They have a different finish where they seat on the head and can crack this rocker arm stud boss. This can, and usually does, get worse and is a major repair issue as there are very few places who can correct this problem. It is also very expensive to correct.

Only notable flaw is some minor pitting in a small area of the base, visible in sixth close-up picture attached. [/size][/size][size=4]Cooling chambers are incredibly clean [/size]and you can verify this by looking at the inner-side of the original factory assembly line <1-1/2> stamped freeze plugs removed. Pushrod slots are all in excellent condition. I do not see any evidence of porting, or machining to bases. I have only seen one other set of 5F (June 1965) dated Hi-Po heads for sale in the last 10 years.[/size]

This is a nice pair of HIPO 289 cylinder heads which are correct for all 1965 1966 HIPO 289 engines. They are a pair and are dated about a month apart ( this was very common on less frequently used parts like HIPO parts). They are correct in every detail. I disassembled them and they look good. Valve guides seemed nice and snug. Looked to me like they will need 2 or 3 seats, valves ground and head resurfaced. These are sold as used and will need to be rebuilt before use. No cracks and no alterations or machine work. Look to me to be a real goo foundation to rebuild. No returns if they are altered or modified in any way by the purchaser. Shipping will be by UPS signature confirmation so no PO boxed and no overseas shipping or shipping to Alaska or Hawaii.

Be sure to read the sellers very honest description carefully. JB Weld is not a good repair where it is used. I have heads with similar issues and a proper welding job is expensive but it is a good repair.

Be sure to read the sellers very honest description carefully. JB Weld is not a good repair where it is used. I have heads with similar issues and a proper welding job is expensive but it is a good repair.
