HCC AW GEAR BOX

What is the difference between a HCC AW GT power steering and HCC AX manual steering 65-66 ateering gear boxes when both gear box ratios are the same .

Not to be a smart a$$ but the tag.

On the AW it is for PS cars. The AX is used with cars with out PS but with the steering packace which was standard on Hipo's and GT's. If memory serves it knocks off 1/2 a turn from full left to full right.

The difference is in the worm bearing preload and total preload. The AX box (power) has 3-4 inch/lbs of preload and the AW (manual) has 4-5 inch/lbs. The total preload (worm bearing plus sector mesh) is 9-10 and 8-9 inch/lbs, respectively.

I'm not a steering box expert; this info came from the shop manual.
