Harmonic Balancer ID

  • I have (an extra) Hi-Po Balancer with the casting number C50E A . The outer ring has the step down area. I was under the impression that all of the "step down" balancers had casting number beginning with C8ZE ???

This balancer was restored by the Damper Doctor several years ago, then stored.

  • I've never seen a C5 with the step down in the outer ring but that doesn't mean it never happened.

Is this a balancer you sent to the Damper Doctor for rebuild or did you buy it this way? If the later I would guess they used an OE C5 inner ring and service replacement C8 outer in the rebuilding process.

  • Agree with Dave, the outer part appears to be a later version. The 'TDC' marking is usually before the tick marks on a correct C5 balancer. The date code would also be to the left of the tick marks. One last thing, the tick numbers should read '3 6 9 12'

I sent it in to them, but they might have just gave me one that they had on hand in exchange. I was also guessing that the parts were mix-matched, it seems more likely that it happened at the Dr. Damper's than at Ford I've had the balancer for so long that I can't remember exactly how it looked when I first bought it..
