painting distributor cap

  • I have a Mallory Comp 9000 distributor in my clone. IT has an ugly big RED cap. Can I paint it, or will I wreck it by doing so? I can only find red replacement caps and they are $50 each! The coil is also red, so I figure I can paint that, too.

  • I looked hard on the 'net for a black cap, but could only find red. It sure is ugly! Back in the day, this was a $400 distributor, so I don't want to simply chuck it b/c it's a bit ugly.

  • I am not familiar with that particular Mallory distributor but I have found some of them to use Mopar and sometimes 55-61 Chevy dual point caps.

  • I would think it's OK to paint. Maybe a flat black so not to draw attention to it. Use a paint that is make for plastics. Let use know how it turns out,(pictures). Good luck. <img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
