when we installed the H pipe
the rear-ward ends are tilted up
at an angle
is this normal?
or are the ends at the exh manifolds
fitting wrong?
thanks

Dave, Please tell us what exhaust manifolds you are using.
I don't believe that the "H" pipe for a standard 289 application will fit Hipo manifolds and vise-versa.
I believe that then installed, provided the engine and transmission are installed and bolted in tight that the ends of the "H" pipe WILL point slightly upwards.
i thot i had bought the hipo H pipe
from NPD as we had put hipo exh manifolds
on my son's car
i remember we had to pull the driver's
side into place and it didn't fit perfect
here is a picture

The rear of the H-pipe should angle up slightly as that is the way Ford made them. It is hard to tell from the picture as to how much angle is on yours. Non Ford (GYPO) H-pipes do have to be massaged into position from my experience.

thanks fred
why do they angle up?
did the next piece of exhaust
back to the muffler
compensate for this angle?
iowa
The angle up was more important on convertibles to clear the bolt in reinforcement that goes beneath the pipes. Yes, the exhaust pipes picked up the angle on the H-pipe.
