T10 Input Shaft

  • Hi,

Just bought an aluminum BW T10M1 4-speed transmission

with the correct date code for my 65 Shelby

that had been used in a Falcon. This means that

the extension needed to be replaced which I was

aware of but more difficult is that the Input

Shaft or Main Drive Gear had the pilot cut short

to fit a Big Block. Consequently I need a new

one. Part number to fit a small block is BW nickel/alloy

T10M-16 with 26 teeth. Anybody has one for sale

or know where to look or have any other ideas

how to fix it. Extended pilot bushing is my absolute

    last resort.

    Thanks for any help,

    /Bo

  • When we had a big block transmission with the short pilot shaft that we wanted to use behind a small block, we used to use the pilot bearing from a late 60's Bronco. The Bronco pilot bearing was roughly twice as thick as the regular pilot bearing and solved the problem.

  • Sorry, I don't now of any more for sale.

As regards the extended pilot bushing

it was my last resort as my trans guru said that I would take

a big risk of it moving out of the crank and consequently

risk of damaging the trans. Is that correct, I don't know

because several guys have suggested that solution or

welding an extensio to the sawed off tip.

However, found one so I don't have to worry. In fact I bought

a complete gear set. The D295 2, T10M1 will hopefully be like new.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

    It's, as always, appreciated.

  • We used a Bronco pilot on a 260 Ford engine in a Super Stock Eliminator Drag car. We were using a wide ratio T-10, the trans was out of a Galaxie. Spun the motor 7,000+ on every pass, never had a problem. That's not to say that this combination would work for everyone. Using the correct length main shaft with the proper pilot bearing is very important in keeping those gold plated transmissions alive. I went through my T-10M a few years ago, works great but I am still planing on converting to a T-5 this summer. What's your car number?

  • Hi Bill,

We have communicated in the past on

the Shelby Forum. My car's number is

#275 and if I don't recall wrong, yours is

#26. Thanks again for your input.
