Who would have figured the HiPo Fairlanes would out number the Mustangs? SHEESH! <img src=images/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

Absolutely nothing at all, Larry. It's just disappointing because there are so many more K code Mustangs in the area, but they are never seen together in a "high profile" all Ford venue such as Carlisle.

We've been trying for about 5 years on this website to get a nice turnout of 5-10 cars to qualify for a <i>289 High Performance Mustang</i> class on the showfield at Carlisle. There is still almost no interest from the members of this site who own a running K Mustang to get together at the All Fords National at Carlisle. (Maybe we should try making it for ALL models with the K code 289, including Fairlanes, Comets, and Shelby Cobras.)

I love the 62-65 Fairlanes. My first car was a Rangoon Red '64 Fairlane Sports Coupe with a "C" code 289, and a factory 4 speed that I bought in March, 1969. That summer, I bought an over the counter 289 HiPo engine and all the other K goodies, including the awesome Arvinode dual exhaust system, to pump new life into the car. Even the suspension was replaced with the factory HiPo Fairlane springs and sway bar, along with a set of 4 Koni shocks. Of course, all the correct parts were available from Ford in those days. A wrecked, low mileage K Fairlane provided the correct 9" rear with 3:89 gears. That car was always a great runner, and it was devastating to me when it was stolen in the summer of 1974.
