The case would have been a dark gray appearance. I usually phosphate the case and tail shaft.
Did you by chance clean the case before having it rebuilt? There most likely would have been original paint markings/stamps on it.

Charles, Yes i did. trans has yellow marks and what looks like pink paint dabs. Thank you very much. Took photos for reference.

The last pic appears to say "HI" for hipo maybe? any suggestions?

The last pic would be "H T", which we usually see ink-stamped, but would not be anything unusual to see it written on.
