Original Tires for 67K w/Comp.Susp.?

  • Any thoughts or proof of the actual tire that came on the 67K if assembled with the optional "6.70X15-4 Ply Rated 170MPH Black Sidewall Tire" (as per the Marti Report)??????

All 5 of my wheels are stamped "15X6" with the circle "Kelsey Hayes" logo and dated coded 1 to 2 months prior to the final assembly. I have no reason to believe these are not the original wheels.

I think that perhaps the tire would have been the same "Goodyear Speedway 350" that came on the 67 Shelbys.

Also listed on the Marti Report is "Competition Suspension". This is what I would interpret as the identical suspension found on the 67 GT350 Shelby.

    Any input or discussion welcomed...<img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Bob (...and another K-code nearing full resurrection)

  • Bob,

The tires are correct for the comp. suspension (Goodyear Speedways). The Kar also came with the Autolite/Gabriel 3way adjustable shocks, same as the Shelby in 67', Shelby also came with optional Koni's. The front fenders should be rolled to fit the larger tires/wheels. The Comp Suspension may have a larger diameter front sway bar too. Rear leaf springs are different along with different front springs.

If you need the numbers off the rear spring I've got the those. Also have the original front Gabriel shocks, if you like a picture I'll send it to you.

I'm interested in knowing more about the wheels you have, do you have any pictures of these wheels?

You can see this 67' K convetible, with comp. suspension in the sKrap Book forum, under "67' Restoration Part 4".

  • Quentin...Yes, I have pics of the wheels and many other pics to share with you and all...I just need to follow your recent steps for pic sharing. Sooner or later I will release all my pics about my car with everyone here. There appears to be sooo many correct and original pieces to the car...I am very excited about it all!

Yes, I would like to see the Gabriel shock pics.

Does your Comp.Susp. 67K include the "welded washer" re-inforced front shock tower bracket? I have seen them on a lot of 67 Shelbys, though no all...

  • Here is a picture of one of the front shocks (should be repainted semi-gloss black for this application)

Rears would look similar to this one (different color and marked AUTOLITE rather than FOMOCO) - bottom one of the two

And a picture of the wheel and tire combination

Question for you about the rear shock (blue one), is that one also adjustable 3 way?

Sorry its not clearer. Yes it is a 3 way adjustable like the front ones. The blue is something we see on 66 versions like that one rather than the semi-gloss black used in 67. If you look closely at the bottom of the top moving section of the rear shock you will see the lines in the metal. The three vertical bars represent the three settings. Compress the shock and line the arrow (stamped in the lower section) Rotate the shock to the setting you want.

On the front shocks the indent in the top washer (under the mounting arms) is used in place of the stamped arrows.
