Hello from Milwaukee

  • Hello everyone! Good to be here.

    I am a 33 year old die hard Ford boy and collector. I have a 68 Mercury Cyclone Fastback 428 4 speed, a 69 Mercury Cyclone fastback 390 auto a 1978 F-150 4x4 400 4 speed and a 64 1/2 Guardsman Blue K coupe.

    My K history:

When the car was new, it was driven (owned?) by a local Ford dealers son. When the 65 fastback came out, it was sold to my fathers best friend because he liked the fastbacks better. My fathers friend drag raced the car until 67.(My dad has 12 second timeslips that have notes handwritten on them that say "Launch 6000 Shift 9800"..man she was a bad ass)

My father purchased the car in 67 in pieces, literally a bushel basket car. He reassebled the car to relatively stock specs minus the motor (put a plain 289 in) he drove it every once in a while, and let it sit for 8 years. The car sat in our driveway for as long as I could remember. As a small child I can remember bugging my dad to tell me stories about the hi-po and it's drag and street racing career. I fell in love with it at a very young age. I can remember going outside after a snow and cleaning the snow off of it because I hated seeing it like that.

After it sat for eight years I finally bugged my dad enough to get it running and road worthy again. It was loud and nasty sounding when we got it going. I was about 10 or so when my dad taught me how to do brakes, tune ups, clutches, etc on it. He even showed me how to speed shift when we got it running. I will never forget it.

In the late 80's my dad finally rebuilt the origional hi-po motor of course I was right there too. It had 2 rods that went through the block and a smashed head. It was resleeved and the heads were welded.

I always told my dad that whenever he wanted to sell it, I wanted it. I told him that I don't care what it takes for me to own it, I will do whatever it takes.

About 3 years ago I recieved a phone call out of the blue from him saying that he wanted to sell it. It was the day I waited for for the first 30 years of my life.

Unfortunately I didn't have the money at the time, so I sold my 70 Torino GT. When I went to my dads house to give him the money and get the title, I got a little emotional on my ride home, it was finally mine!

I have a six year old son that loves to ride in the hi po with me. He is my little car show buddy. He has already asked me if it will be his car someday. I think the third generation is hooked. He's a hi po boy through and through.

I have been asked if it was for sale a few times. My answer is no. Then there was the guy who said "everything is for sale" I told him, Ok, $100,000. He said no way! Your crazy! I said, OK then I'll just have to keep it. [Blocked Image: http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/8152/dsc00066cm3.jpg][/url]

  • Hi Steve,

Looks like you're new to this site but not to K Codes.

I waited 12 years for mine - you blew that record!

I used to take my nephew to the drags & he would help me with my first mustangs...he ended up a drag racer & good mechanic but unfortunately developed a leaning towards Chevs.

Your dad obviously had a big influence on you too.

Nice looking coupe - the colour looks like a Twilight Turquoise early 65 coupe I had a few years back - Paint code 5?

All the best & good luck.
