Metric speedometer

  • Hi guys

    In a week or two, my new toy will arrive in Switzerland. <img src=images/icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

Part of the legalizing process to get the license plates will involve changing the speedo to the metric system. From what I have been told, there are several ways this can be done :

1- finding an original metric speedo, maybe from a T5 ?

2- recalibrating the existing part, which will cost a buck and a half,

3- installing a speedo display labeled in both km and miles

I think I would prefer the third solution as it seems the quickest and cheapest way, does anyone know if these dials exist and where I could find one ?

  • Hi,

All Mustangs imported by Ford to European countries

like for example Sweden had the Kilometer speedometers.

Write an email to Classic Mustang Club of Sweden and ask

them if there is a member that has one. There are over

1800 of them and most likely somebody has a speedometer

extra. You can find the club on the web.

    Is your car a standard 65 or a GT65 or 66?

I have a standard 65 speedometer and display in Kilometers.

    /Bo

  • Hi Bo

Thanks for the tip. My car is a 66 GT with standard interior. I'll start looking around for a metric unit, it shouldn't be all that hard to find.

  • William, I have an NOS kilometer speedo assy. I can get you the part number tomorrow if you are interested. It is correct for 1965 GT or deluxe interior and all 1966 cars. Joe.

Thanks Tom. I found them shortly after putting my post up and sent them an email.

  • How much would an original cost if you find one today? i paid 300dms for the one I put in my car some 14 years ago. they are not that easy to find, i have been in Germany for the better part of 20years and involved with T5's and Mustangs, and i bought the one I have as it was the only one i have ever seen for sale..
