Refurb or replace - part 2

  • 1. Hood Latch assembly: - Still looks pretty good. Some surface rust on the other vertical piece not shown. I can't tell if this was painted previously or not. What is the finish supposed to be? Should I paint it? If so, what color.

    2. Fan - Looks pretty good. Paint even looks good on front smooth side. Back side seems to have a texture of some sort. One of the blades says FoMoCo. How should I finish this and any suggestions on how to refinish the spacer while I'm at it? Oh yea, the 4 bolt heads don't match on the front of this thing either.

    3. Washer pump - Can this rusty thing be saved or should I replace it. Any ideas on how I can refinish it? I assume the bracket and 2 bolts should not be black or should they?

  • Hood latch should be phosphate and oil, the brackets were semi-flat black if I remember correctly. Washer pump brackets and bolts were zinc, I doubt you can save the original. Here again I would recommend NOS, the repops are junk.

I was planning to just leave mine "natural". You could use a detail paint to make it prettier, but it doesn't seem necessary. Would it corrode if a protective clear coating isn't put on?
