Tracing Mustang origin

  • The door tag on my 65 K code is missing so I'm unable to determine how the car was originally built. I'd like to replace the tag, but need the info first.

Also, does anyone still keep the original Ford records as to who the selling dealer was? I'm pretty sure the car has always been in the local area, but can't verify.

    Thanks,

    Dwane Kepler

  • With some detective work, including a thorough examination of the car, you should be able to determine all the codes except for the DSO. If you post your VIN, we can check the In Search of Mustangs book and narrow down your scheduled build date.

I have never heard of anyone having records of all the dealers for 65/66.

  • How would you go about finding the info for door tag?Does the fenders etc.have date codes on them like some of the other Ford cars?I too would like to replace lost door tag.

  • "In Search of Mustangs" helped me a lot in deducing

most of the info on the door tag of my 64.5 07K as it

hadn't come with the original driver door. And, lucky

for me, it had never been seriously restored and the

original paint was below a poorly laid on coat of

    primer.

Any serious early Mustanger's library should have this

    book in it.
