Anybody with early 65 Mustang tell me what the bolt or screw looks like on the choke cable under the dash and does it have a nut on it?

The good news is that the hardware for the choke cable bracket to the dash is all the same for 64 thru 67 HP Mustangs - a 1/4-20 X 1/2 Pan head screw with a Phillips drive, and a 1/4-20 nut with a 5/8 flange that's serrated on the base and is .264 inch thick. The bad news is that the screw is exclusive to the HP choke bracket. The nut is used in a few other places (67 headlight buckets). AMK has a 5/8 inch long and a 3/4 inch long screw that will work if cut to 1/2 inch length.

Thanks for the info Jim but can you post or e-mail pic of screw?

The choke cable bracket screw looks like the four that hold the rubber manual transmission shifter linkage cover to the body except for the 5/8 inch length. For an example of a pan head screw, remove one of the six that hold the instrument cluster to the dash.

I guess the screw and flanged nut is left natural color?

The finish is phosphate and oil (-S2).

I know what a pan/phillips looks like but I'm thinking that screw looks like the small version of the big head screws that go in the E-Brake?
-
Bingo.
AMK Products - http://www.amkproducts.com/ - has the 1/4-20 X 5/8 pan head screw (a package of 6 for $3) under Ford p/n 50527-S and their own stock number of B-12543. Cut it down to size and you're in. There is a $30 minimum for orders.

Not meaning to hijack this thread but does the correct mounting bolt come with the reproduction cable?
-
No the bolt doesn't as I bought one years ago to see how close they were and they are OK and will due in a pinch but the bolt doesn't come with it.
